PSG to Appoint Zinedine Zidane As New Head Coach?

After their departure from the Champions League Round of 16, Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly parting ways with head coach Mauricio Pochettino due to his failure to live up to expectations in the French Cup and UEFA Champions League.

Despite having a perfect team comprising of superstars like Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, Neymar, Hakimi, Ramos, Di Maria and Verratti among others, Pochettino has been unable to drive the club to its full potential, leading the board to make this decision in preparation for the next season. One of the main turning points in the Argentinian’s destiny with PSG occurred in their meeting with Real Madrid in the Champions League finals, when the team failed to qualify despite having a better squad than their opponents in every aspect.

The club’s lack of strength seems to be having another impact as well, as there are rumours about Lionel Messi leaving to go back to Barca, especially considering Xavi has joined as head coach, leading the team to a better performance. If this happens, this will be another nail in the coffin for PSG’s dreams of bagging a Champions League trophy.

According to recent PSG news, the Ligue 1 leaders are on the lookout for a replacement for the Argentinian and seem to have their eyes set on the former Los Blancos coach Zinedine Zidane, according to Le Parisien.

Zidane has led Real Madrid at two different times, once from 2016 to 2018 and then from 2019 to 2021. During these two spells, the Frenchman helped the team win 2 La Liga trophies as well as 3 Champions League titles in a row.

After a glorious spell with the Spanish team, Zinedine Zidane is currently not tied to any club, although he has been earmarked by many over the last year, including Manchester United and the French national football team.

Can Zidane help PSG win the Champions League? The team seems to be cursed in this competition despite Naser Al-Khelaifi spending billions. The board hopes to bring in a new era for the team by securing the 49-year-old and many believe he could be the right man for whipping the Parisians into form and improving PSG results.

Although PSG players are strong athletes, many of them have been unable to gel together recently. Considering the French boss’s experience in working with football stars in high pressure environments, the board believes he would be the perfect candidate to lead the team.
